Speech Therapy Service

Speech Therapy Service
Provide speech therapy for children and students aged 0 to 20 with various types of language problems including: Oral-Motor Disorders, Autism/ Autistic Features, Down's Syndrome, Global Developmental Delay, Cognitive/ Developmental Delay, Language Delay, Articulation Delay or Disorder, Stuttering/ Fluency Disorder, Voice Disorder, Visual Difficulties, Feeding Disorders and Hearing Disorders.
 
 
Assessment / Evaluation
The Speech Therapist would use both standardized clinical tests and informal tests to evaluate children's abilities in speech, language, communication, articulation, oral motor and swallowing skills; and to  plan appropriate and effective training goals for children.
 
Common assessment tests/ tools include:
 
  • Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson's Muscle-Based Oral-Motor Skills Evaluation for Feeding and Speech (SRJ) <to assess client's jaw, lips & tongue skills for phonation, articulation & feeding>
  • Reynell Developmental Language Scales (RDLS) <to test language comprehension and expression (in Cantonese and English)>
  • Symbolic Play Test (SPT) <to test children's play skills>
  • Cantonese Articulation Test (HKCAT) <to test children's articulation accuracy and intelligibility>
  • Hong Kong Cantonese Receptive Vocabulary Test <To test children's Cantonese vocabulary comprehension>
  • Hong Kong Cantonese Oral Language Assessment Scale (HKCOLAS)
  • Cantonese Basic Speech Perception Test (CBAPT)
  • Goldman Fristoe 2 Test of Articulation (English)
  • The WH Question Comprehension Test (English)
Speech Therapy
 
Therapy Approach
  • To promote children's language understanding, speech, communication, vocalization, articulation and oral motor abilities using interesting educational toys, teaching aids and daily life games
  • To promote children's feeding abilities using oral motor exercises
  • To promote quality of Parent-Child Interaction by teaching mothers and caregivers to teach language in daily life activities
  • To fulfill individual needs by planning appropriate training goals with parents together
  • To concern parents by providing basic knowledge and counseling on special education
  • To facilitate children's whole life development by providing appropriate referrals when necessary
  • To provide speech therapy using Cantonese, Mandarin (Putonghua) or English
  • To provide speech therapy using both Clinical Approach and Naturalistic Approach
  • To apply the most up-to-date and effective treatment strategies that are widely used by speech language pathologists in America and Europe, e.g.,
